In the aftermath of the devastating hurricanes that hit the Caribbean in September 2017, Tripwireless™ partnered with CANTO to provide critical supplies to school children in Antigua and Barbuda.
In 2017 we donated over 500 backpacks filled with school supplies, which were distributed to 30 public schools in Antigua in collaboration with the Antigua Public Utilities Authority’s (APUA) Giveback Initiative School children on the sister island of Barbuda were also beneficiaries of this initiative.
Given the number of school children that are in need in the more impoverished areas of this region, we at Tripwireless have decided to create an annual assistance program called the C7 Initiative. Under this program, our goal is to provide 3000 backpacks with an assortment of school supplies to children in St. Maarten, Dominica, British Virgin Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua & Barbuda and Guyana.
We will be working with CANTO to distribute the backpacks throughout the rest of 2018 and 2019.
Tripwireless cares very much about our customers and their community. As an active member of CANTO, we were ready to assist in any way we could when the community reached out for Hurricane Relief for the devastated islands of Antigua and Barbuda. With our first effort of 500 backpacks last year, we made the decision to start the C7 Initiative, named after the gate we were heading to on our way to the 34th Annual CANTO Conference in Panama.
When Trinidad & Tobago was recently been hit by a historical flood disaster, we decided we needed to donate 500 backpacks with schools supplies immediately through the C7 Initiative to assist with the loss of school supplies and backpacks for the children.
Taylor Wita, Executive Administrator for Tripwireless will be flying to Trinidad to help distribute the backpacks with CANTO in a few weeks. We hope that by providing these backpacks sooner rather than later, we can bring hope and help to the communities wiped out by the flooding.
In 2019, CANTO and C7 Initiative will continue to bring joy to the Caribbean Communities by distributing another 1000 backpacks and hosting a Day in Service at the 35th Annual CANTO Conference in Trinidad & Tobago in July where volunteers can donate their time to put these backpacks together for distribution. In between these dates we will distribute to the Region as needed to reach our goal of providing 3,000 backpacks in total throughout the year.
